We raised funds for the purpose of dedicating the center, which has been named “The James Anderson Center for the Performing Arts.” The dedication of The Anderson Performing Arts Center will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 2PM.

Friends and former students now have cause for amusement. The performing arts center at West Forsyth will be named for Anderson. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ Board of Education voted to name the auditorium after Anderson, a jack-of-all-trades educator who taught honors English and chorus, sponsored the senior class, directed musicals and organized talent shows at the school from 1976 to 1997.

I was blessed to be in the musicals during my high school years at West Forsyth. It was always my favorite part of the year – we all had so much fun together & became a family. Mr. Anderson was such a big part of that. He was a musical genius & had a wicked sense of humor. 🙂 I was also in his Honors English class my senior year. I’ll never forget one day after class, I stayed behind to practice songs for “Oliver!”. He sat at the piano & we wound up singing songs from a bunch of different shows, just the two of us. I will treasure that memory forever. Thank you for everything Mr. Anderson! We love you!!

I have many wonderful memories of spring musicals, Varsity Singers, Senior English, and other fun times under Mr. Anderson’s tutelage. What a deserving honor for a real cornerstone of my days at WFHS.

Mr. A. I was given the news today that you have dismissed your class of so many faithful and devoted and loving friends for the last time. You were such an inspiration to myself and so many others who were blessed to have shared your “non amused” space. I have no words to express how my breath left me for a time today and my mind wandered back to a time when I should have been a carefree and uninspired 18 year old kid. Instead I thought about your light and devotion to your students.. not just students of Senior English.. but students of life and life purpose…. and how you codified that in the simple minds such as mine so many years ago. For that I thank you. I often find myself wondering what is the purpose in life… May God thank you for me for showing so many what it should be! Rest in Peace Mr. Anderson
